Based in Poole, Dorset, the BSO perform extensively across the south and south -west of England, nationally and internationally, and deliver an extensive range of education and community work, through its award -winning Participate department.

Application/First Round Requirements :

Please provide the following as part of your application.
• Application Form
• Video submission

Your video submission must be recorded on a mobile phone with a working clock visible in the background. It must be in one take, without any cuts or editing. The video will then be checked by an impartial person and only the audio will be presented to the panel, alongside  your application form (anonymised) . Please do not include a spoken introduction or other identifying features. If you have any issues providing a video submission please contact applications@bsorchestra.co.uk , and we can discuss alternative options.

Video submission requirements

• 1st Movement of Haydn D Major cello concerto (exposition only , no cadenza ) or 1st Movement of Haydn C Major cello concert (exposition and development , no cadenza ) – No piano accompaniment
• Excerpts – please email applications@bsorchestra.co.uk to request them

Please send your application form to applications@bsorchestra.co.uk and then we will provide a WeTransfer link for you to submit the video submission. The deadline is 1 June 2026 17:00.

Every application will be considered.

The successful candidates will then be invited to a live unaccompanied audition 6 or 7 July in Bournemouth, may be subject to change .

Second Round Live Audition Requirements :

• 1st Movement of Haydn D Major cello concerto ( exposition and development ) or 1st Movement of Haydn C Major cello concert (exposition and development ) – This can be the same as the video submission

• One movement of a standard cello concerto – this should be contrasting to the Haydn, for example Romantic or 20 th century

• Excerpts

• Sight -reading may be given
