Beginning on Friday 13 September in Poole, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will be offering regular Cake Concerts throughout the 2019/20 concert season. Taking place in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from September until May, these afternoon concerts combine classical repertoire with tea, cake and light chatter.

The BSO’s Cake Concerts are designed especially for people living with dementia. Guests can enjoy tea, coffee and cake whilst sat at tables in a friendly, relaxed setting as they are serenaded by BSO musicians. The BSO’s Teatime Trio, consisting of flute, harp and cello, perform a selection of well-known and relaxing favourites from the Baroque period to the present day.

Working closely with Alzheimer’s Society, the BSO has designed the Cake Concerts specifically to cater to the needs of those living with dementia, as well as their families, friends and carers. These events have a profound effect on movement and communication amongst audience members, creating a positive shared experience for all who attend.

Over the last few years, the BSO has embedded working with people living with dementia at the heart of its practice. This work was recognised by the Alzheimer’s Society who awarded the Orchestra ‘Dementia Friendly Organisation of the Year’ in November 2017.
