Designed for KS2 students, these thrilling and interactive concerts will be presented by award-winning composer, James Redwood, and we will be joined by Mezzo-soprano singer Felicity Buckland. This year, Explore the Orchestra: Sing Out! is all about singing and using our voices. This concert will delve into how vocalists and orchestras work together to tell stories in opera, theatre and the contemporary world. Explore the Orchestra introduces the orchestral families in an accessible way and showcases music from a variety of genres.
These concerts will feature two participatory elements for everyone to use their voices with the orchestra, composed especially for these concerts with schools in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole with our partners SoundStorm. Through these pieces, the audience will learn to sing and perform with the orchestra and be introduced to all the instruments that make up a symphony orchestra.
If you are a new school and would like more information about getting involved in these concerts, please see here.
Pre-Concert CPD Session
James will be leading a FREE CPD session to teach the participatory material that will be featured in the concert, as well as giving ideas for other ways you can prepare your children. The CPD session will be held on Tuesday 24 March from 4:15 – 5:45pm in The Spire, Poole, BH15 1DF.
We expect each school attending the concert to send at least one member of staff that will be involved on the day of the concert to attend the CPD. If you are unable to send a member of staff, please let us know after booking. Further details will be sent once you have booked your tickets. There will also be a suite of digital learning resources available for your school to use to get ready for the concert.
If you would like to book tickets for one of the concerts but it’s sold out, please join our waitlist here and we’ll let you know if any tickets become available.
Thanks to our generous funders, travel bursaries (£200 per school) are available to help with rising travel costs. We’ll be working in close collaboration with the local music hubs to distribute this limited allocation most effectively. If you would like to apply, please click here. Please note, the coach bursary application window will close in two weeks on Wednesday 17 December.
It's a fantastic opportunity for children to experience a symphony orchestra for the first time and it's always a lot of fun!
