Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra returns to Meyrick Park this summer for two outdoor concerts: Classical Extravaganza [26 July] and Disco Symphonic Spectacular [27 July].

‘Classical Extravaganza’ [26 July] features some of the best symphonic music written, including music by Rimsky-Korsakov, Grieg, and Saint-Saëns alongside a quick trip to the cinema courtesy of John Williams and Hans Zimmer. The evening reaches a colourful climax with Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries, accompanied by a stunning fireworks and pyrotechnic display.

Saturday night sees disco music lighting up the stage in ‘Disco Symphonic Spectacular’ [27 July], a concert featuring arrangements of music by the Bee Gees, Earth Wind and Fire, Boney M, Sister Sledge, Donna Summer, Kool and the Gang, to name but a few. This music will be brought to life with a host of popular singers including Kirsten Joy and Tess Burrstone – who are both known for their performances with Clean Bandit – and singers Gavin Conder and Nick Shirm.

Come along to relive the magical sounds of the seventies in this trip back to a time of big hair and platform shoes, wide lapels and Denim aftershave, in full symphonic glory! The evening culminates with a spectacular pyrotechnic and firework displays.

Visitors are encouraged to bring picnics to be enjoyed in the beautiful surrounds of Meyrick Park when gates open at 6pm, ahead of the concert at 8pm. Early bird tickets are available at £30 (plus £1 booking fee per ticket) until 29 May.

BSO Pops conductor Pete Harrison said: “I can’t wait to return to Bournemouth’s Meyrick Park with these two concerts showcasing the best of classical and disco music. Whether you fancy a night under the stars listening to some of the greatest symphonic and film music written, or dancing the night away listening to the BSO play well-known classics alongside a star-studded line-up, these concerts are guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face.”

The BSO’s Chief Executive, Dougie Scarfe OBE DL, said: “Bringing music into people’s lives is why the BSO exists – from large symphonic performances in concert halls to community music to support health and wellbeing. Our concerts in Meyrick Park are always a fantastic display of the power of music in bringing people together – and we’re thrilled that BCP Council continue to support these live events. We hope you’re looking forward to partying with the BSO in the heart of Bournemouth this summer.”
