The concert marks the anniversary of the moon landing which the Orchestra will celebrate with a performance of The Planets by Holst. In addition to The Planets, the Orchestra’s programme will also include Barber’s Violin Concerto – performed by Nemanja Radulović – and John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine. Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra gave the UK and London premieres of Adams’ popular fanfare for orchestra in 1988 with then-Principal Conductor Andrew Litton.

Nemanja Radulović says “I’m thrilled to be making my BBC Proms debut this summer, joining Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Kirill Karabits on the Royal Albert Hall stage. I first performed Barber’s Violin Concerto with Kirill and BSO when I was their Artist-in-Residence in the 2016-17 season, and I look forward to revisiting this work with them in July”

The BSO first performed with Nemanja Radulović at the Royal Albert Hall in 2015 for Classic FM Live, and following this outstanding performance, appointed him their Artist-in-Residence for the 2016/17 season. As part of his residency, Nemanja performed Barber’s Violin Concerto for audiences in Poole and Exeter. Following these performances, the Telegraph described Nemanja as ‘a rising star’, stating that his ‘performance of Barber’s concerto was something else’.

Kirill Karabits, Chief Conductor, says “I’m delighted to be returning to the BBC Proms with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to perform Holst’s The Planets and John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, in celebration of the anniversary of the moon landing. I am thrilled that Nemanja Radulović will be giving his Proms debut with the Orchestra, since Nemanja was our Artist-in-Residence three years ago we have developed a great relationship, and I am looking forward to revisiting Barber’s Violin Concerto with him.”

The 2018/19 season marks Kirill Karabits’ tenth season working with the Orchestra, having become Principal Conductor-designate in 2008 and Chief Conductor in 2009. Kirill Karabits became the first Ukrainian conductor to be named principal conductor of a UK orchestra, and has since built up a considerable discography with the BSO. On Onyx Classics Kirill recorded a critically-acclaimed Prokofiev Cycle with the Orchestra, including all seven symphonies and the first ever recording of the opening movement of Prokofiev’s symphony in G. Working with the Chandos label, Kirill and the Orchestra are working on their ‘Voices from the East’ series which sees them perform and record works by lesser-known Eastern European composers such as Boris Lyatoshynsky and Kara Karayev.

The Orchestra will be announcing their 2019/20 season in May.
