Patel’s compelling interpretation — in the classical South Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam — comes to life, with Stravinsky’s music performed by the full Orchestra under Chief Conductor Kirill Karabits.

Seeta Patel’s new realisation follows her smaller-scale 2019 production, which was described as “an evocative, visceral interpretation” by The Stage. Bharatanatyam is an incredibly rich art form that is recognised globally and, though normally seen in solo presentations, this version will be performed by a cast of 12 dancers.

Our Chief Conductor, Kirill Karabits, is known for championing undiscovered symphonic works from former Soviet countries through his acclaimed series, Voices from the East. Together with the BSO he has brought attention to works that fuse Eastern influences with the traditional symphony orchestra. Here, he brings a fresh perspective to Stravinsky’s masterpiece in a performance which explores traditions from east and west in a new mix. We can’t wait!
