Wherever you are across the South West this Christmas we’re bringing festive music to the whole region, from Falmouth to Yeovil, Poole to Portsmouth and beyond. Join us as we escape in to a world of sparkling music…
BSO on your Doorstep
An ensemble of BSO players will be travelling around Falmouth, Lychett Matravers, Port Isaac, Torpoint, Thorverton and Yeovil. There’ll be a selection of Christmas music from Debussy’s The Snow is Falling to Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and a host of other Christmas family favourites such as Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells and Silent Night. Some events will even feature an entertaining festive quiz!
Messiah – Handel’s glorious oratorio
Come along to Lighthouse, Poole for Handel’s Messiah with Baroque specialist Laurence Cummings. A mainstay of the festive season, this beautiful piece includes the popular aria I Know that My Redeemer Liveth and the Hallelujah Chorus. Singers Anna Devin, Jake Arditti, Sam Furness and Ashley Riches join the Orchestra — as well as the mighty Bournemouth Symphony Chorus!
Last Night of the Christmas Proms
Our classic Christmas concert Last Night of the Christmas Proms (which takes place in Poole, Exeter and Portsmouth this year) is one for all the family! Certain to be overflowing with Christmas treats, there’ll be hits such as Jingle Bells, Winter Wonderland and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Our host singer/actor this year will be Ben Forster, who has played the lead roles in musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of the Opera, The Rocky Horror Show and Evita, to name but a few.
Celebration of Christmas Carols
Nothing feels quite as Christmassy as gathering together to sing traditional Christmas carols. We’ll be doing just that at Lighthouse, Poole on Friday 23 December with our Celebration of Christmas Carols evening, and we’d love for you to join us! This carol service will be accompanied by the full Orchestra as well as Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and Bournemouth Symphony Youth Chorus. There’ll be all your traditional carols from Good King Wenceslas to Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Come along and join us as we raise our voices in song!
