Friday night [7 Aug] brings you the best classical blockbusters of all time in Now That’s What I Call Symphonic Music! Join us for atmospheric music from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, E.T, and far, far, more…
On Saturday night [8 Aug] Symphonic Smash Hits- the ‘90s! will have you partying like it’s 1999 again! Think Robbie Williams, Cher, Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Oasis, to name but a few. There’ll be all the hits that you can’t help but singalong to performed by the Orchestra and a crew of West-End singers. So, come on…let us entertain you!
2. What to bring (and what not to bring)
What to bring:
Your picnic A-game! We’ve seen some fresh picnics over the years – from full table and chair set ups with candelabras and fancy tablecloths – to deckchairs, picnic blankets and cool boxes – and everything in between. No matter if you’re whizzing to the shops or whipping up your favourite homemade snacks — this is the time to impress your friends and family with your finest home cookin’ (or assemblin’), or enjoy theirs! Alcohol is allowed so bring along a bottle of bubbly too – or whatever your favourite tipple is.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, so don’t forget your sun cream and hat, and lots of water! An umbrella won’t go amiss too, rain or shine. Once you’re settled, all that’s left to do is put your feet up, chillax and enjoy the music!
What not to bring:
Dogs are sadly not allowed, though assistance dogs are. Barbeques and sparklers are not allowed. Due to the hot weather this year smoking is also not allowed.
3. What to wear
You can be whatever you ‘wannabe’ at Meyrick Park this year! If you’re visiting us from a galaxy far, far away as your favourite Star Wars character, making the trek over from Middle Earth, or just trying to phone home — we’re here for it! You never know, the Orchestra might join in too.
Symphonic Smash Hits – the ‘90s! is asking you to get up into the loft and dig out your skorts, your biker shorts, capri pants and cargo pants, backward caps or bucket hats and, of course, that understated ‘90s windbreaker. Bonus points for a chain wallet and perhaps a cheeky spritz of impulse!
4. How to get here
We’ve got some handy instructions of how to find us this year…
Walking: Meyrick Park lies within easy walking distance of Bournemouth Town Centre (north side)
Taxi: A taxi and drop-off system will be operation on Central Drive off Braidley Road prior to the concerts. Please follow the instructions given by the traffic marshals.
Driving: There is no car parking at the concert site itself. The nearest public car parks are the Pay & Display at the Town Hall on Braidley Road and the Richmond Hill Multi-Storey. There is parking on nearby roads around the park, but please park legally.
There is limited parking available for blue badge holders adjacent to the site, for those displaying a valid windscreen badge. Please note this is on a first come basis.
You can enter the concert arena via either Meyrick Park Crescent or Braidley Road. Please note that entry via the woods is not permitted.
5. Why it’ll be special
There’s nothing like the magical atmosphere as the sun sets on the pine trees in Meyrick Park, while the Orchestra plays and the crowd sings along to their favourite tunes! Although you can’t bottle the electric atmosphere at our Meyrick Park concerts each summer, you can come along and experience it for yourself with a bottle of something special — are we right, or are we right?
Whether you’re reliving your favourite film or bringing it all back to your favourite decade, it’s all about the mix tapes and musical memories…
