To herald the New Year, our stylish Viennese Gala takes a trip from Vienna to Kyiv with BSO Chief Conductor, Kirill Karabits, and folk singer, Ruslana Lotsman. To celebrate the Ukrainian Orthodox Christmas (6 January) we will include a selection of traditional Ukrainian folk carols taken from a special music project from 2018 called “Carol” with arrangements by Bogdan Kryvopust. They are unique in their harmonious combination of ancient folklore chants and the colourful folk vocals of Ruslana Lotsman. This original sound brings them into the atmosphere of the archaic ritual holidays of Ukrainian people. The concert also features a selection of waltzes, polkas and marches by the Viennese waltz-king, Johann Strauss II.
