The BSO runs the Bournemouth NOYO Ensemble which involves delivering monthly rehearsals, supporting instrumental lessons, and providing performance opportunities. Our NOYO ensemble features a range of acoustic, electronic and accessible instruments. While we tailor the ensemble to be accessible, and to accommodate the needs of young disabled musicians, this ensemble is open to all young musicians aged 11-25. We focus on creating a warm and welcoming environment for young musicians to thrive in, as well as looking at ways of supporting progression routes for those who wish to broaden their creative horizons.
The Bournemouth NOYO Ensemble is part of the wider NOYO programme led by Open Up Music, which feeds in to the National Open Youth Orchestra (NOYO). This dynamic orchestra is the world’s first disabled-led national youth orchestra promoting musical excellence and working alongside disabled and non-disabled musicians aged 11-25.
The National Open Youth Orchestra evolves annually, with seventeen musicians coming together this year to present a broad programme of contemporary classic music. All National Open Youth Orchestra musicians have come through the ranks of five regional NOYO Ensembles, which are delivered through major partnerships in London, Bournemouth, Bristol, Birmingham and Cardiff.
Applications to join from September 2025 will open in February 2025.
