Eight of these evenings will be spent with Chief Conductor Mark Wigglesworth on the podium.

Amongst the many musical treats of the Season, we are particularly excited about the launch of Mark’s new Beethoven Cycle with performances of the first four influential symphonies. Entitled Road to Joy, this will form part of commemorations to mark 200 years since Beethoven’s death and demonstrate how powerfully his music still resonates today. The Cycle will also include a series of Immersion Days featuring Mark, BSO musicians and guest experts.

Of Mark’s eight concerts, two will see him joined by our 2026/27 Artist-in-Residence – the compelling piano virtuoso Boris Giltburg! The pair’s on-stage chemistry is truly unmissable. And, of course, you can look forward to a special recital from Boris later in the Season.

We’re also delighted to welcome Thomas Adès as our Celebrated Composer. We’re thrilled to be playing several of his pieces and in May 2027, you can witness his phenomenal musical talent as we perform under his baton for a programme paying Homage to Sibelius.

We’re sure you will join us in offering warm welcomes to these new faces – including our incoming new Calleva Assistant Conductor, Michal Oren – alongside our returning old friends like Chloé Van Soeterstède, Andrew Litton, and Kirill Karabits.

The spotlight will be shining close to home as two concerts this Season feature our own musicians as soloists! We’re thrilled that Principal Cello Jesper Svedberg and Principal Bassoon Tammy Thorn will be taking centre stage. We’re very lucky to have such talented musicians here at the BSO!
