After a packed-out first for outdoor symphonic music in Portsmouth last year - in which crowds filled Portsmouth Guildhall Square for Portsmouth 100 in partnership with Portsmouth City Council and The Guildhall Trust- we’re returning to the maritime city on Friday 17 July for a celebration of iconic film scores in ‘The Best of Williams and Zimmer’. Then, on Saturday 18 July we’re digging out our legwarmers for ‘Symphonic Smash Hits – the ‘80s!’

Later in July, the stunning backdrop of Corfe Castle sets the scene for Love it Local Events’ ‘Summer Nights in the Castle’ – which finds the BSO celebrating ‘Smash Hits – ‘80s’ on Saturday 25 July with music from George Michael, Elton John, Ultravox, A-Ha, the Pet Shop Boys, and many more.

Two smaller scale concerts feature a 14-piece ensemble: join us on Friday 24 July to indulge in the ‘West End to Hollywood’ with music from Chocolat, James Bond, Moulin Rouge, The High Pass, Toy Story, Harry Potter, The Artist and more.

If you and the family are in the mood for something inspired by the animal world, you’re in for a treat on Sunday 26 July. This concert will delight the senses and inspire the imagination with music from The Wild Bears by Elgar to the sing-along favourite from Moana, not to forget Vaughan Williams’ deeply moving ode to the English countryside The Lark Ascending.

Our Proms in the Park concerts in Bournemouth’s Meyrick Park – sponsored by Lester Aldridge Solicitors and supported by BCP Council – have become a mainstay of the summer and they’re back with a bang this year! Friday night’s [7 Aug] offering – ‘Now That’s What I Call Symphonic Music!’ will take you on a journey from Middle Earth to a galaxy far, far away. The evening will of course be finished off with a fireworks finale!
