This years’ Proms in the Park begins on Thursday 1 August with an afternoon full of musical fun for the whole family featuring a matinee concert by the BSO, as well as performances from other BSO ensembles and audience participation. During the concert performance of Saint-Saens’ The Carnival of the Animals you’ll have to listen out for the lion’s roar, hop along with the kangaroos or mimic the cuckoo’s call.

The full forces of the BSO will be on show for Galactic Classics on Friday 2 August, a concert featuring the best of classical music about space to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing. You will recognise Richard Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey; the work features heavily on the soundtrack and is well-known because of it. Another space-themed film work featured is John Williams’ Star Wars performed in its full symphonic glory.

The concert reaches its climax with a full performance of Holst’s The Planets, including the well-known Mars and Jupiter movements as well as the lesser known movement representing the other planets in our solar system. The Planets will also be accompanied by choreographed lasers, lights, fireworks and the latest NASA images from our Solar System!

BSO Proms in the Park 2019 culminates with an evening of throw-back classics from the 1980’s on Saturday 3 August with a symphonic twist. Relive the sounds of the decade in symphonic technicolour, including tunes such as Toto’s Africa, Elton John’s I’m Still Standing and other classic numbers from Bonnie Tyler, David Bowie, Ultravox and many more.

This concert will again be followed by a stunning ‘son et lumiere’ laser and pyrotechnics show which has wowed audiences in previous years, topping off the evening with a bang!

The BSO is delighted to welcome Blue Sky Financial Planning, Nuffield Health Bournemouth, the South West Regional Assessment Centre (SWRAC), Wessex Water and Tilney Financial Planning and Wealth Management, as VIP Sponsors. We are pleased to announce the award-winning Dorset based Langham Wine Estate as the English Sparkling Wine Partner at this year’s BSO Proms in the Park.
