Engaging with, and playing, music with other people is known to forge connections, enhance mental well-being and even to improve mental abilities like cognition and memory. With this in mind, we’re delighted to play music at Cake Concerts and Care Home performances across Cornwall, as well as presenting creative health care training with partners at Exeter University in Truro and a Wellbeing Orchestra Residency in association with IntoBodmin.

Our popular dementia-friendly Cake Concerts will be visiting Hall for Cornwall in Truro [7 Mar] and Saltash Social Club [8 Mar]. These informal events feature tea, cake, and conversation, with the aim of combating isolation and encouraging connection. Dementia UK states that “music can be a powerful way to trigger positive feelings and connect with other people”.

On the same day a duo of BSO players will give performances in 4 care homes in and around Truro [7 Mar], allowing residents to experience and explore the joy and connection of live music in the comfort of their own surroundings.

During the same week we’ll be presenting a day of Creative Health training at Exeter University in Truro [8 Mar] and a Wellbeing Orchestra residency in the centre of Bodmin [7 Mar] with Into Bodmin, hosting workshops for local residents and health and social care professionals. The session will focus on how music can help build supportive relationships within communities and between professionals and vulnerable people, as well as how participation can benefit mental health, wellbeing and self-esteem — both for service users and professionals.

Later on that evening [7 Mar] there’ll be a Jam Night at The Old Library in Bodmin, in association with IntoBodmin. From 5-7pm join BSO Associate, Matt Harrison and musicians from the Bristol Recovery Orchestra for an informal twilight jam. Bring an instrument, your voice or just yourself for a relaxed evening of music- making and good company.  Whether you’re a seasoned musician or a newcomer, everyone is welcome…

We’re so looking forward to seeing you there! For more information on our Cornwall Residency, click here
