Founded in 2019 in partnership with Bristol Drugs Project’s Creative Communities, the Recovery Orchestra is a space for anyone affected by addiction to play, create and perform music as part of a creative support network in the heart of Bristol. Meeting weekly, the group creates original cocreated music and plays specially arranged versions of anything from Bartok to Radiohead.

Members have picked up instruments they haven’t played for years, played with other musicians for the very first time, and found a community in the ensemble. The orchestra performs regulary in Bristol venues including at the Unitarian Church, Trinity, the Beacon.

We celebrate our own imperfections. It’s part of something bigger than ourselves and that’s what makes it beautiful. There’s the development, there’s the sobriety and growth. That is so powerful.
