Two iconic Eighth symphonies are discussed. Plenty of theories have been suggested as to why Schubert didn’t finish his Eighth Symphony, but nevertheless the perfection of its two movements resulted in it being among the most popular works of the orchestral repertoire. Dvořák’s symphony was composed at his summer retreat: sunny, warm and relaxed, it is brim full of the folk inspired melodies and rhythms of his beloved Bohemia.
