Kate Hawes
Name a musical personality living or dead you would most like to meet.
Lady Gaga. I'd frog-march her to Marks and Spencers to find her some sensible attire.
Which piece of music do you enjoy playing?
The Radetsky March is really fun to play and sometimes we turn the music upside-down to add to the thrill.
What do you most like about living on the South Coast?
Our little royal dog (King Charles spaniel), Rodney, thinks it is just the most excellent place to go pawkies (he can't pronounce his w's)
Can you describe a typical concert day?
I teach violin lesson at school on concert days, so by the time I get on the coach I need a big nap…and on the way home!
Which piece of music would you take to a desert island?
Well, it wouldn't be the Blue Danube...
Does your family come to see you play in concerts?
My father is actually my chair sponsor. Both my mother and father are keen followers of the orchestra and actually joined in with the Members for one of our visits to Prague, which they loved.
What's your favourite place to eat for a pre-concert meal?
I don't know if this counts, but for me, one of the MANY attractions of playing concerts in the Bournemouth Pavilion is that Ben and Jerry, purveyors of fine ice creamy comestibles, are to be found across the road. My friend Tim and I take it in turns to pay.
