I come from a family of enthusiastic amateur musicians. My Nan was an amazing pianist who could play anything. She used to play the piano for the silent movies! From a very early age I used to go with my parents to watch them rehearse in the local amateur orchestra.
From my earliest memories I had always wanted to play the French horn. I was too small for the horn so Mum decided I should learn the violin alongside the piano. It was a disaster and I used to hide my violin. Finally I was given a horn at the age of 11.
I love playing the large symphonic repertoire from Brahms to R Strauss to Mahler. That's not to say that I don't enjoy the challenge of smaller chamber music such as Mozart or more modern Stravinsky.
My spare time is entirely taken up with my family. We love being outside walking, camping or just hanging at the play park; what a great place to be able to do that! I do escape once a month to go to a book group as reading is high up on my list of favourite things to do!
