The Olympic Spirit, Harry Potter Suite, the Shipping Forecast – plus all the Last Night of the Proms favourites will be performed on Thursday 9 August and Friday 10th August at Weymouth Pavilion

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is to perform this special Last Night of the Pavilion Proms in Weymouth inAugust, as the town is in the grip of Olympic fever!  Flags, bunting and marvellous music are all on the programme for this evening of patriotic fervor, which begins with John Williams stirring anthem The Olympic Spirit, written for the 1988 Games in Seoul, and ends with a rousing rendition of Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory.

The Orchestra performed the climax of its community Olympic project, Stephen McNeff’s The Chalk Legend at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy earlier this year, and at the concert will play  McNeff’s tribute to Olympic runner Usain Bolt – 9.58: The Fastest Man Alive.  And in a nod to Weymouth’s unique place as host to the 2012 sailing events the concert includes Binge’s evocative piece Sailing By – perhaps better known as the music to the Shipping Forecast.

Add in other maritime favourites such as Rimsky Korsakov’s The Sea and Sinbad’s Ship and Wood’s Rule Britannia!, plus a flying visit from Harry Potter (again courtesy of John Williams), and you have a concert that celebrates the closing weekend of the Olympics in style.  Bring your family, friends and flags and join the BSO as they play the best classical music in Weymouth’s special year.

Join the BSO on Thursday 9 August and Friday 10th August at Weymouth Pavilion !!
