  1. The last two concerts have been exceptional. The Rachmaninof 4 was the best I have ever heard. Last night we were surrounded by well behaved scholars from P'mouth Grammar and they were clearly impressed by the cellos in the Beethoven 5 - played with obvious enjoyment! The BSO is always at its best when playing large symphonic works.

  1. Does anyone share my view that the positioning of the lower strings is important? Cello and bass to the right of the conductor. I think this has been the position since the beginning of the 20th century and part of my enjoyment is being able to see these instruments being played. I also feel it changes the sound of the orchestra. At the last Portsmouth concert I could only just see the double basses and the front desk of the cellos. The basses seemed to occupy a little less space than perhaps they needed. I think I would like to see the lower strings on the right hand side. Does anyone agree.
