  1. I agree with Anthony Page, many concerts seem to have got shorter. I would expect a concert to last two hours including the interval. I appreciate that BSO musicians have some distance to travel after the concert but so do I from Taunton to Bristol, Exeter or Poole. At Bristol recently I heard someone say that she preferred to attend concerts by visiting orchestras because they gave an encore, not a view I subscribe to myself, but it would be good PR for a short encore to be thrown in when the programme is on the short side. Added to which, audiences find the choice intriguing and the orchestra can cut away immediately afterwards. Give it a try please BSO, you will win some more friends I'm sure

  1. It is always difficult to judge the length of a concert, given applause, tuning where appropriate and presenter links etc etc. We are sorry if you feel we fell short of expectations on this occasion, and it is something that we will discuss further. Thank you for letting us know your thoughts!

  1. I went to the BSO concert in Bournemouth last Saturday to hear music by Smetana, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. What we heard was fine - it's just that there wasn't much music! Before anyone says "quality before quantity" let me say that I travelled for two hours (return) for about 1 hour 20 minutes of music. The concert was over after 1 hour 45 minutes and that included an interval and 5 introductions from Petroc Trelawney. Surely we could also have heard a second piece from Ma Vlast ie Vltava and perhaps even an encore (what's that I hear someone say?) Sadly the concert was not well attended but I'm afraid that I will also be absent in future if that is the sort of evening we are expected to pay and travel for! Come on BSO give us a bit more music!
