Join the BSO for its very own St Patrick’s Day Parade as it celebrates the Irish in Stanford’s beautiful rhapsody, depicting the essence of the stunning Irish countryside. Harty’s The Fair Day is a movement from his Irish Symphony that evokes the picture of marching bands, playing well-known folk tunes as they parade the streets of Ulster. The concert opens gently with Mendelssohn’s descriptive overture on a calm day by the sea (sometimes possible in the Irish Sea!), slowly increasing pace with Chopin’s playful Second Piano Concerto and Grieg’s tuneful second suite from Peer Gynt (complete with trolls instead of leprechauns!)
