Saturday Nights at Seven at the Bournemouth Pavilion
Hosted by BBC Radio 3's Petroc Trelawny
The 2012-13 season includes six special concerts which highlight some of the best classical music written, as well as showing off the amazing Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to the full. There is nothing more exhilarating or emotionally powerful than a symphoy orchestra playing live and I know that you will not be diappointed with what we have to offer.
Our trip begins with a sun-soaked evening of musical gems by Rossini, Bizet, Elgar and Rimsky-Korsakov, and Rodrigo's masterpiece, his Concierto de Aranjuez, perhaps the most famous of all guitar pieces. As autumn approaches we delve into darker places with a dramatic all-Mozart evening and then in February we focus on another cornerstone concerto - Elgar's Cello Concerto - first performed here in Bournemouth in January 1920, just three months after its London premiere.
Rachmaninov features prominently in our Masters of Melody concert (his Second Piano Concert needs no introduction) and a musical serenade is on offer featuring an assortment of nocturnal evocations by Mendelssohn, Borodin, Prokofiev and Mussorgsky. The series reaches a climax with a special gala evening which celebrates 120 years since Sir Dan Godfrey founded the Orchestra in Bournemouth, almost to the day.
With a host of talented conductors and soloists, the BSO playing at the top of its game, and the brand-new acoustic shell it really will be a thrilling season.
I look forward to seeing you at a concert soon.
